According to CNN, Vienna’s Christmas market on Rathausplatz is one of the best Christmas markets in the world.

The Christmas market in front of Vienna City Hall is listed among the world’s best Christmas markets in the ranking by US news channel CNN. The travel editorial team ranked the Vienna Christmas market, one of the oldest and most traditional, as the top destination for the Christmas season. The market opens on November 14.
CNN names Vienna’s Christkindlmarkt at Rathausplatz one of the best in the world
“We are very proud that Vienna’s Christkindlmarkt is probably the most important and successful Christmas market in Europe. More than three million visitors come to Vienna’s Christkindlmarkt every year,” said Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) in a press release on Thursday.
This year, Vienna offers 14 official Christmas markets with a total of 911 stalls, including 180 food stalls. The Christmas market at Rathausplatz (96 stalls) leads the way, followed by the X-Mas Market in the Marx Halle with 186 stalls as the largest Advent market in 2025.
